This searchable CD contains the official textbook for the Illinois Certified Livestock Manager Program. It includes 26 lessons in PDF files, grouped into six major topic modules:

  • Introduction (to the principles of environmental stewardship and whole farm nutrient planning)
  • Animal Dietary Strategies
  • Manure Storage and Treatment
  • Land Application and Nutrient Management
  • Outdoor Air Quality
  • Related Issues (covering emergencies and mortality management)
  • Livestock Rules and Regulations
Also includes a PowerPoint presentation of workshop trainings and assessment tools.

University of Illinois Extension provides training workshops and quizzes; the Livestock and Poultry Environmental Stewardship CD-ROM should be used for both. All Illinois livestock producers owning 300-999 animal units must either attend a workshop or pass a quiz to become certified. In addition to either the training or testing provided by U of I Extension, the Illinois Department of Agriculture requires successful completion of the Certified Livestock Manger Exam by all Illinois livestock producers owning more than 1,000 animal units for certification. The Livestock and Poultry Environmental Stewardship CD-ROM is, again, the designated resource.
